Factors affecting oxidative phosphorylation by subcellular particles isolated from cotton seedling hypocotyls.

چکیده
Properly prepared mitochondrial fractions from plant sources are capable of incorporating inorganic phosphate into high energy bonds upon the oxidation of members of the tricarboxylic acid cycle (3, 6, 7). Oxidative phosphorylation has been demonstrated in preparations from a wide variety of plant sources. This author reported that a high concentration of BSA3 in the grinding medium was necessary for cotton seedling particulate preparations to oxidize Krebs cycle intermediates (12). Because of this unusual requirement for BSA in the isolation technique, the study was extended to determine the influence of this material on oxidative phosphorylation. Certain other factors in the isolation and measurement technique were also considered.

Oxidative and phosphorylative activities of mitochondria isolated from cotton hypocotyls.
Mitochondria isolated from 2 strains of cotton plant hypocotyls (Gossypium hirsutum L. var. Rex smooth leaf and Rex glandless) were examined for their oxidative phosphorylation activities. Bovine serum albumin at a relatively high concentration was essential in the extraction medium for the isolation of oxidatively active mitochondria from both strains of cotton. Phosphorylation was obtained on...

Whether root systems an(d tops of plants are essentially alike or notably different with regard to their temperature relations is an importanit question in fundamental plaiit physiology, as well as in ecology, in pathology, and in the study of the climatic distribution of plants in nature and in cultivation. This general question is dealt with in the present paper with respect to seedlings of t...

Optimization of regeneration methods in cotton is necessary to improve and Successful production of transgenic cotton cultivars by tissue culture technique. This study was conducted to determine the genotypic effect on callus induction in cotton using 3 genotypes (Coker349, 4-S-4 and C1211) and Coker 312 selected and a study was carried out in Cotton Research Institute of Gorgan using a factori...
متن کاملEffects Of Colchicine Treatments On Chromosome Doubling In Three Diploid Cotton Species
Colchicine has been used to induce chromosome doubling in plant species. Diploid cotton species have inherited desirable genes that are resistant to biotic and abiotic stresses and also possesses useful fiber quality traits, such as higher fiber length and strength. To transfer these desirable traits to the most extensively cultivated tetraploid cotton species through hybridization, it is a pre...
متن کاملOxidative Phosphorylation and Glycolate Oxidation by Particles from Spinach Leaves.
It has recently been reported (2) that oxidative phosphorylation occurs when organic acids of the citric acid cycle are supplied as substrates to particles isolated from the cotyledons of etiolated lupine seedlings. The ratios of the number of moles of orthophosphate consumed to the number of atoms of oxygen taken up (P/0 ratios) were found to be as high as those previously reported only for an...
